The brief for this project was to deconstruct and subvert an existing brand. I was given the brand/identity for SALT, a cultural institution in Turkey. The following publication is a document of my explorations in which I questioned the accessibility of the brand, limitations of technology, and what might happen when you make design more democratic. I experimented with Illustrator’s Live Trace tool, created a typeface of my own, and employed others, both design professionals and non-designers to create their own typefaces for SALT using free creative software tools. The book includes an interview with Prem Krishnamurthy of Project Projects about their inspiration for the brand/identity and an interview with SALT as well.
